<p>CARLOS GARAICOA</p> <p>CONTRAPESO</p> <p>24.09 | 16h-19h</p> <p>Galeria Filomena Soares and the artist Carlos Garaicoa are pleased to invite you to the opening of the artist's first solo exhibition in Portugal, CONTRAPESO on September 24th, between 4pm and 7pm.</p> <p>Until 12.11.2022</p> <p>For Carlos Garaicoa's first solo exhibition at Galeria Filomena Soares in Lisbon, a group of very recent works will be presented, including two new installations - Counterweight (Ciudad plomada) and Babylon - that will complete a tour where the artist returns to models as a fable to review the status quo of contemporary society through the language of architecture. We will observe some elements that appear sporadically in the artist's works: the organic and anthropomorphic elements of the Ciudad Armero series, the vegetation that takes us back to his exhibition at MAAT in Lisbon in 2017, and the video animation of Babylon. The pleasure and terror emanating from the impermanence of the image in his puzzles, or from our own reflection in Soñamos en la superficie rayada de un cristal, are some of the analogies that help us dive into the artist's corpus of thought. They constitute, in the end, counterweights that help to firmly plant the artist's poetics.<br /> __<br /> Para esta, la primera exhibición personal de Carlos Garaicoa en la Galería Filomena Soares, de Lisboa, se presentarán un grupo de obras muy recientes que incluyen dos instalaciones nuevas – ‘Contrapeso’ (Ciudad plomada) y ‘Babylon’- que completarán un recorrido donde el artista retorna a la maquetación como fábula para revisar el status quo de la sociedad contemporánea a través del lenguaje de la arquitectura. Observaremos algunos elementos que aparecen esporádicamente en las obras del artista: los elementos orgánicos y antropomorfos De la serie ‘Ciudad Armero’, la vegetación que nos remonta a su muestra personal en el MAAT de Lisboa en 2017 y la videoanimación de ‘Babilonia’. El placer y el terror que emanan de la impermanecia de la imagen en sus puzzles, o de nuestro propio reflejo en ‘Soñamos en la superficie rayada de un cristal’, son algunas de las analogías que ayudan a adentrarnos en el corpus de pensamiento del artista y que constituyen, a fin de cuentas, contrapesos que ayudan a plantar en firme la poética del artista.</p>
