The Brazilian artist Letícia Ramos presents a new series of photographic works along with video projections for her first solo show in Portugal.
Jeff Wall’s Milk (1984) is one of the most intriguing images of contemporary photography history, and also a (unexpected) door access to the most recent set of works by Letícia Ramos displayed at Galeria Filomena Soares.
Besides the complex psychological and social burden frequently associated to this image (and to his work in general), Milk is a starting point to an important test for Wall – Photography and Liquid Inteligence (1989) in which he discourses about what would be the “liquid intelligence of photography” in counterpoint with what he denominates as “mechanic” or “dry”.
What in the first case corresponds to an erratic and experimental character of the image – on which the dream of stopping the light movement in the plate still wasn’t considered (unless on a fantastic way), on the second case the captation, preservation and dissemination gestures of the image are codified, being the founders of modern vision on photography.
In A Grande Onda cohabit formal studies about photographic material and construction of images without any scenography display - my goal is to do less scenography and more photographic paper surface".
